How much do PVC windows cost? Here you will find the price per window and per m² in tables, what makes the figure go up or down and how to compare quotes without surprises. The numbers are a starting point for the conversation, not a quote.

Indicative market reference values. These are unverified averages, collected from Portuguese comparison platforms and manufacturers. They vary with the region, the product and the installer. They are not a quote: always confirm with written quotes. Reference: October 2026.

Why there is no single price

Windows are made to measure. Imagine two neighbours in the same building. One replaces a small bedroom window, with one sash and plain double glazing. The other replaces a large balcony door, with two sashes, coated glass and a shutter. Both hear “PVC windows”, but the cost has nothing in common. So if someone gives you a price “per window” without knowing the size, the glass and the service, that number says almost nothing.

PVC window price per unit

Figures for PVC windows with Low-E double glazing and argon, already installed, without removing the old windows.

Window type Typical size Installed price
Side-hung window, 1 sash 0.6 × 1.2 m €150–220
Tilt-and-turn window, 1 sash 0.9 × 1.2 m €220–320
Tilt-and-turn window, 2 sashes 1.2 × 1.4 m €350–520
Sliding window, 2 sashes 1.5 × 1.2 m €300–450
Sliding window, 4 sashes 2.4 × 2.0 m €700–1,100
Tilt-and-turn balcony door 0.9 × 2.2 m €400–650

PVC window price per m²

The price-per-m² table (installed) shows the scale of values, but each window is made to measure.

Situation Reference per m²
Market overall €120–300
Ordinary renovation jobs (average) €180–220
New build, many identical windows and easy access can drop below €150

Large windows or non-standard sizes tend to cost more per m², because they need made-to-measure production and the weight makes handling harder.

Price by opening type

For an average window (1.0 × 1.2 m), in white PVC, with Low-E double glazing, installed:

Opening Average installed price Note
Simple side-hung €180–280 The cheapest one that opens
Tilt-and-turn €250–380 Dearer hardware
Sliding, 2 sashes €220–350 Seals less well than side-hung
Bottom-hung tilt (basculante) €220–320 Common in bathrooms
Fixed (does not open) €120–200 The cheapest per m²

See how each one works in opening types.

What makes the price go up or down

What it is How it moves the price
Size and sashes More glass and more frame
Opening type Each one uses different hardware
Frame More chambers and a better class cost more. See profile classes
Colour White is the cheapest. Outside colours add 15–30% to the frame price
Installation High floors, hard access and old walls mean more work
Warranty What it covers and who answers

Glass and extras

Glass is the part that varies most. Reference surcharges, per window, compared with normal double glazing:

Glass Reference
Basic double, no Low-E (4/12/4, air) The cheapest, but insulates little
Low-E double with argon (4/16/4) About €20–40 more than basic
Double with solar control (south and west) €30–50 more
Triple €150–250 more than normal double
Laminated or safety (ground floor, glass doors) €40–80 more

To see whether triple is worth paying for, read double or triple glazing. Shutters, shutter boxes and insect screens usually come on a separate quote.

Installation and removal

Installing takes work, and labour is about 25 to 35% of the total cost. Normally included are made-to-measure manufacture, transport, fixing in the opening, sealing around it and adjusting the hardware. Often charged separately:

  • Removing the old windows: about €20–50 per window.
  • Expansion tape that waterproofs the joint with the wall: about €10–20 per window.
  • Finishing the opening (plaster, paint, sill), sun protection, travel and scaffolding above 2 floors.

Always ask for two figures, with and without removal. See also PVC window installation.

Examples: 2-bed and 3-bed homes

Home Windows Glass area Reference value
2-bed (T2) 5 to 7 about 10 m² €1,800–3,200
3-bed (T3) 7 to 10 about 16 m² €2,500–4,500

The values assume installed PVC with Low-E double glazing. They change a lot with the opening, the size and removal.

Why the cheapest can end up dearer

A low quote can leave out something that shows up later: removing the old window, the finishing, the shutters. Or it can use a simpler frame or glass without saying so. Comparing only the total misleads.

Example: two quotes for three windows. The first is cheaper and just says “3 PVC windows installed”. The second is dearer, but names the frame brand and the glass, and says it removes the old windows and repairs the wall. Add what is missing to the first and the difference may vanish.

Where surprises usually come from:

  • shutters and shutter boxes that were not in the sum;
  • repairing and painting the wall after the old window comes out;
  • sills and trims, when the opening is uneven;
  • transport and carrying up, in buildings without a lift.

None of this is bad in itself. What is bad is finding out at the end.

How to compare quotes

Two quotes for “the same window” can be very different. Ask every company, in writing, for:

  1. The size of each window and the opening type.
  2. Frame brand and system.
  3. Glass make-up (double or triple, Low-E, argon).
  4. What the installation includes: removal, sealing, finishing.
  5. Whether VAT is included, and the warranty, in writing.

If a quote does not answer a point, ask. See how to ask for a quote and the questions for the installer. For an idea with your own sizes, use the price simulator (calculator).

Prices change from town to town

PVC windows in Torres Vedras, in Setúbal or in Porto do not cost the same: the installer’s distance, the access, wind, salt and demand all count. See the example of Peniche, where the sea weighs on the choices.

Grants

Some programmes, such as Vale Eficiência, have already ended, and others may open or close. Do not count on grants without checking: see what is open on the Fundo Ambiental website and read about the CLASSE+ label.

What to do next

  • Use the price simulator and note your sizes.
  • Ask for 2 to 3 quotes with the same points and confirm everything in writing.
  • Before signing, run the quote through the checklist before hiring.

Questions and answers

How much does one PVC window cost?

As an indicative reference, a small installed side-hung window runs €150 to €220, and a 2-sash tilt-and-turn €350 to €520. A 4-sash sliding window can reach €700–1,100. These are unverified averages: confirm with written quotes.

As a reference per window: Low-E double with argon costs about €20 to €40 more than basic, solar control €30 to €50 more and triple €150 to €250 more than normal double. Indicative values.

What makes the price of PVC windows go up?

More size or sashes, more complex hardware, a better frame class, triple or coated glass, outside colours (15 to 30% on the frame), shutters and a difficult installation. Removing the old windows is usually charged separately.

Can I rely on this price table?

Only as an idea. These are indicative, unverified market reference values that vary with the region, the product and the installer. Use the simulator (calculator) and ask for 2 to 3 written quotes.
