Open data: buildings by period of construction
INE data, ready to use. We put in three CSV tables the number of buildings in every Portuguese municipality and in every parish of Lisbon and Porto by period of construction, and the homes of every municipality by repair need, heating and tenure (2021 Census). Journalists, students, councils and companies can use them with the source.

Columns
Columns
- `codigo_ine`: INE code (4 digits for a municipality, 6 for a parish).
- `nome`: official name at INE.
- `edificios_total` and `edificios_PERIOD`: INE counts (the periods add up to the total in every row).
- `pct_ate_1960…` and `pct_ate_1980…`: our own calculation at JanelaCerta.pt (buildings up to 1960 or 1980, divided by the total).
- File 3: `aq_*`, `edificio_reparacao_*` and `posse_*` are INE counts of homes (indicators 0012533, 0013316 and 0012498); the `pct_*` columns are our own calculation.
What these numbers do not say
- They are buildings, not homes: a block with several floors counts as one building.
- They do not say what state the windows are in, or how many were already replaced.
- The reference date is the 2021 Census. INE updated the indicator on 19 March 2024.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, naming the source (INE, 2021 Census) and saying that the percentages are our own calculation at JanelaCerta.pt. That is the condition of INE's CC BY 4.0 licence.
They come from the 2021 Census and INE updated the indicator on 19 March 2024. They do not change until there is a new Census or a revision by INE.
INE counts buildings by period of construction, not windows. Many windows in old blocks were already replaced. That is why we always say the data show the age of the buildings, not the state of the windows.
The files hold all 308 municipalities and the parishes of Lisbon and Porto, the two cities JanelaCerta.pt details. Other parishes can be requested through the contact page.
