“How long does it take to replace the windows?” There is no single number. It depends on whether the window is in stock or made to measure, on the colour of the profile and on when the clock starts. We found no official or independent source with the average in Portugal. There are only the lead times each company advertises, and they differ.

This guide shows what some companies say, what the law says about the delivery date and what should be in writing before you pay a deposit (sinal). We give no prices.

Ready to deliver or made to measure

  • Ready to deliver (pronta entrega) is a standard-size window the shop has or can deliver quickly. On the product page of a PVC window with shutter at a large DIY chain, read on 25 October 2026, home delivery shows 2 working days. That is delivery of the product: installation is another matter.
  • Made to measure (à medida) is built for your opening. The same page links to a made-to-measure window configurator (Isoxa, a Leroy Merlin brand), whose process has five steps: configure, finish the project in store, confirm the measurements at your home with a partner installer, confirm the order and book the installation, delivery and installation. The page gives no lead time in days.

The steps of a made-to-measure order

  1. Measuring on site. Ejanelas.pt says the order involves a technician’s visit to confirm the measurements and finish the quote.
  2. Final quote, with confirmed measurements.
  3. Award and deposit. The same company only treats the order as confirmed once the client accepts and awards it, and starts producing straight away. It asks 50% at that point and 50% on installation day.
  4. Manufacture. The step that varies most (see below).
  5. Delivery and installation. See what to expect from PVC window installation.

Colour changes the lead time: at the three companies in the table that distinguish colours, colours take longer than white.

What some companies say

These are the companies’ own statements, read on 25 October 2026, with no publication date (unless stated). They are not averages or guarantees.

Company White profile Other colours
Ejanelas.pt 15 to 20 working days (“Condições” section) 30 working days
Ejanelas.pt (another section of the same page) 3 to 4 weeks 6 to 8 weeks
Cidade PVC (page with © 2025) about 4 weeks (also grey forge and golden oak) 6 to 10 weeks, “special colours”
Caixilho PVC (page of 1 September 2026) 3 to 4 weeks 5 to 6 weeks, confirmed case by case
Fábrica Janelas maximum 15 working days not stated
MMWindow 15 working days, with a note to ask for the conditions by email not stated

Note:

  • Ejanelas.pt gives two different lead times on the same page. So ask for the lead time in writing, not the one in the advertising.
  • Cidade PVC says it states the lead time when you order. Caixilho PVC does not say when the clock starts (order, deposit or measuring).

What the law says about the delivery date

We read article 11 of Decreto-Lei 84/2021 of 18 October (consumer rights in the sale of goods), in the text published in the Diário da República of 18 October 2021. The decree also covers goods to be manufactured, and goods supplied under a works contract, with the necessary adaptations (article 3). If the contract has the trader install the goods, they count as delivered when the installation is finished (article 11(2)). In short:

  • The trader must deliver on the agreed date or within the agreed period (para. 4).
  • If no date is set, they must deliver “without undue delay” and within 30 days of the contract being made (para. 5).
  • If they fail, the consumer can ask for delivery within a suitable extra period and, if that also fails, end the contract (paras. 6 and 7).
  • The consumer can end it at once, with no extra period, if the trader refuses to deliver, if the deadline is essential, or if the consumer said before the contract was made that the date is essential (para. 8).
  • After ending it, the trader refunds what it received within 14 days, on pain of double (paras. 9 and 10). The trader has to prove it complied (para. 11).

This applies to consumers, not to companies. We are not lawyers: for your case, check the Portal do Consumidor. See also warranties and certificates.

In practice: if a date matters to you, write it down before you sign.

What the quote should say

  • A delivery date or lead time, and for installation, in days or weeks, and from when they count (award, deposit or final measurement).
  • What the lead time includes: colour, glass, shutters, removal of the old windows.
  • Deposit: how much, when and for what, with a receipt, and when the rest is paid. See the checklist before hiring.
  • What happens if there is a delay: who tells you, how soon, what new date is written down and whether there is compensation. We found no general rule on penalties, so agree it in writing.
  • Validity of the quote. One of the companies we read gives 10 days.
  • How long the installation takes. See the questions for the installer.

What we could not confirm

  • An official or independent average lead time in Portugal.
  • Made-to-measure lead times at Leroy Merlin, Maxmat, Obramat and Bricoweb: the pages we could read do not give them, or we could not open them.
  • Whether Decreto-Lei 84/2021 was amended after October 2021: we read the original text.
  • Whether your contract is a sale or a works contract, and so which rule applies.
  • We did not use consumer complaints as an average: they are individual cases.
